Cameron Smith is firmly in the hunt to win on his LIV Golf debut, sitting just one shot off the lead with six holes left to play in Boston.

The winner of the event pockets $AUD5.9 million.

Fellow new recruit Joaquin Niemann led the event at 14-under with seven holes to play, one shot ahead of Talor Gooch, Dustin Johnson and Lee Westwood, and two ahead of Smith and Anirban Lahiri.

That’s when Smith brilliantly chipped in for birdie at the 14th hole to move to within just one shot.

Smith has been one of the big movers in the final round, firing four birdies and an eagle in his bogey-free final round to close in on Niemann.

He’s making his LIV Golf debut having signed on for a reported fee of $A140 million.
