Gorden Tallis has criticised Roosters coach Trent Robinson after he defended Jared Waerea-Hargreaves only to not answer a question about a hip drop tackle from Lindsay Collins.

Waerea-Hargreaves was placed on report twice and sin-binned, but was defended by Robinson.

However, he refused to be drawn on Collins’ hip drop tackle on Tom Eisenhuth, which could see him suspended.

“I can’t really say much about that can I?” Robinson said.

“It is not for me to sort of go into.”

Tallis accused Robinson of ducking a simple question, which he found strange for a man with plenty of opinions in rugby league.

“It was a bit weird when Lara (Pitt) asked him the question about the hip drop,” Tallis said.

“I talk to Trent on radio and he has always got an opinion on a lot of stuff that happens.

“It was a simple question. Yeah he has got nothing to worry about or he has got something to worry about.

“It is as simple as that. He saw it.

“As a coach it was just strange because he has normally got an opinion on everything.

“He had an opinion on the Manly jerseys. He has got an opinion on everything and just then he just chose to be quiet.

“I thought it was a fair question with what happened to (Patrick) Carrigan and what has been happening and Lara Pitt is just doing her job and asked, what did you think about the tackle?

“He had something to say about Jared’s (Waerea-Hargreaves) tackle. And this was another tackle.

“It is just a tackle in the game. Bit weird”

However, Corey Parker believes Robinson’s press conference was a sign his team are solely focused on winning the competition potentially from outside the top four.

“I took a lot out of that press conference in the way Robbo just played down his side’s performance,” Parker said.

“The way that they went about their business. He said they had to play a certain way.

“They had to do it very tough at certain stages.

“It would have been really easy for Robbo to go into that press conference and really be upbeat about the performance that his team has just been able to do.

“It was their seventh win in a row and solidified their spot in the top eight.

“He went in there and had a steely look in his eye.

“They are on a mission. That is their seventh win in a row. They are very real about where they are as a football side.

“That was just typified from what we saw from Robbo. There is a belief from this team that they can go places in this competition and they showed it again tonight and they had to do it the hard way at different stages.”
