Queensland Police has savagely rubbed salt into the wounds of Richmond supporters after Brisbane‘s nailbiting elimination final win in the AFL overnight.
The Lions beat the Tigers by two points in a Thursday night classic at the Gabba after Brisbane spearhead Joe Daniher soccered through a goal with just more than a minute to go.
While most Brisbane supporters were still collecting their breath on Friday morning after the close victory, Queensland Police decided to rub it in for heartbroken Richmond fans and players.

“Taskforce #PrideofBrisbane established to investigate a mauling at the Gabba last night, Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) tasked to treat 22 Victorian men for broken dreams,” they cheekily posted across their social media accounts.
“Brisbane Lions, we‘ve had complaints from down south that Joe Daniher stole the game, we’ll pop by to make inquiries #TaskforcePrideofBrisbane.
“Queensland Police Service confirming all 22 and a number of supporters were transported to hospital with broken hearts and dreams.”
They also tagged the Tigers’ social media account in the comments and asked how they were “holding up”.
The lighthearted banter attracted plenty of praise from amused social media users.
“Classic … hilarious … made my day and I‘m not even an AFL follower lol,” one person commented.
“Hopefully the complainants were safely escorted to the airport to exit the state with dignity in tact,” another joked.
Others did not see the humour in the police’s comments.
“Concentrate on real news,” one user said.
“Please don‘t rub it in,” another commented.
“Was hardly a mauling though,” someone else argued.
Thursday night’s grandstand finish did not come without controversy after Richmond key forward Tom Lynch had a goal overturned with just more than two minutes remaining.
Lynch’s kick was initially paid a goal and gave his side a two-kick, and likely matchwinning, lead. But the AFL’s video review system, the ARC, ruled that it had sailed over the goalpost.
Many pundits felt Richmond was “robbed” by a decision that ultimately ended its 2022 campaign.
Victoria Police confirmed on Friday morning there had been an alleged robbery involving the Tigers, except in a more literal sense.
They are investigating after $6000 worth of Richmond memorabilia was stolen in Melbourne’s east in early August.
A Margot St home in Chadstone was robbed twice on August 14 and 22 while it was unoccupied.
The stolen items included framed Tigers jerseys, cards, photos and flags, along with jewellery and tools.
The total value of the stolen items was more than $23,000.
