Footy fans took great delight in taking the mickey out of Taylan May after the Penrith Panthers star was placed on report and sent for a 10-minute spell on the sidelines for a high shot on Parramatta Eels flyer Will Penisini.
May was found guilty of assault occasioning bodily harm earlier in the week and was handed down a two-game suspension by the NRL, but the suspension was put on hold until next season, allowing May the chance to compete in the Panthers’ preliminary final against the Eels.

It was a decision blasted by many across the rugby league world, but Australian Rugby League commissioner Peter V’landys explained the decision to suspend the ban was so “Penrith fans” wouldn’t be penalised for May’s actions.
However, May ensured those same Penrith fans wouldn’t get to see him in action for at least 10 minutes when he caught Penisini with a brutal high shot that was immediately called by referee Gerard Sutton.

Sutton placed May on report and also sent him to the sin bin for the high shot in the 12th minute of the contest.
The news wasn’t welcomed by his teammates, but the Parramatta fans at BlueBet stadium took great delight in May’s momentary exit from the contest.
So too did several footy fans on social media, as May could ultimately end up being suspended from finals matches should he be sanctioned by the Match Review Committee.
