Hodges branded Gallen the “worst Origin captain in history” on Monday and it appears it was a sledge that supposedly got under Gal’s skin.

Gallen implored the former Maroons star to run at him and he happily obliged as the two were then separated by No Limit boss Matt Rose, before Hodges walked off stage and called Gallen a “f*****g bum”.

Gallen had some final words to say to his rival.

“I’m going to make you look like a bum on Thursday,” Gallen said.

“You hear that ambulance that was here? It’s come a couple of days early.

“It’s meant to come on Thursday. You’ll be going home in it. Make sure you kiss your kids goodnight before you go to the boxing fight. Hopefully you wake up.”

All three had been trading verbal jabs in the lead-up to the fight, but Gallen appeared to have got under Hannant’s skin when he claimed the Queenslander was a benchwarmer throughout his career.

At the press conference ahead of the fight, Hannant took the opportunity to clap back at his rival, calling him a “flog”.

“That shows the flog he is at times,” Hannant said.

“He doesn’t get it. I’m proud of my career. It’s about putting the team first.

“It’s not about how good you are or how many games you start, you start sounding like a flog.”

However Gallen fired back over Hannant drawing parallels with the team sport of rugby league and the individualistic nature of boxing.

“You sound like a flog, you’re talking about a team sport, you’re talking about being a good team in an individual sport, you idiot,” Gallen said.

“You are an idiot. You fought Hodgo and that’s it.

“You think you’re gonna walk in and even compete? I could seriously kill you on Thursday night.”
