AFL great James Hird’s family has been caught up in an alleged tradie scam which saw them overcharged for roof repairs.
The GWS assistant coach’s wife Tania is the highest-profile victim of the alleged scam, reports Seven, which saw unwitting customers use a website to hire British and Irish workers.
The Hirds were attempting to fix a downpipe on their Toorak home.

However Tania was charged $31,900 for the work, when an independent expert says she should’ve been charged $350.
The report stated there are 11 alleged victims with the alleged ringleader appearing in court on Wednesday applying for bail.
Police claim they caught four accused scammers at Melbourne Airport trying to escape the country last month.
They allege the ringleader is part of an organised crime group targeting the vulnerable, such as an 81-year-old man who was allegedly scammed of almost $100,000 for roof works that left it “in a worse condition than when the tradies arrived”, per the report.
A Bombers champion and their former coach, James Hird is said to be in the mix for the Essendon coaching job though he is yet to officially enter the process.
Ex-St Kilda and Fremantle coach Ross Lyon withdrew from the coaching race on Wednesday.
