Adelaide’s forward line is poised to receive an almighty boost, with emerging star Izak Rankine reportedly declaring he wants to play for the Crows.

As reported first by the Gold Coast Bulletin, the Gold Coast Suns on Tuesday were informed that Rankine, who was taken with Pick 3 in the 2018 national draft, wants to be traded to the Crows.

Despite warnings from senior Suns players he’d attract more scrutiny in the footy-mad state of South Australia, Rankine is keen to join Adelaide, which has offered the goalkicker a five-year deal worth around $800,000 per season

It’s believed the Suns offered Rankine around $650,000 per season to stay.

The Suns were scheduled to have player exit meetings on Tuesday.

Foxfooty.com.au has contacted the Suns for comment.

Given Rankine is not a free agent, it sets the stage for a fascinating negotiation between the Suns and Crows come trade time. The Herald Sun on Monday night reported Gold Coast would ask for multiple high picks for Rankine — possibly the Crows’ pick 5 and a second-round selection.

Should Rankine’s trade wish be granted, he’d join an exciting forward line brigade that already includes Riley Thilthorpe, Darcy Fogarty, Josh Rachele, Shane McAdam and Taylor Walker.

After an injury-riddled start to his Suns stint, Rankine made his debut in early 2020 and showed signs of his thrilling potential early.

But the goalsneak truly launched himself into the competition’s elite bracket in 2022 with sensational form, booting 29 goals from 21 games.
