NRL legend Greg Alexander believes the Brisbane Broncos are going “absolutely nowhere” so long as leaks continue to emerge from the playing group.

The Broncos’ 22-12 loss to the St George Illawarra Dragons confirmed Brisbane would miss out on finals footy for the third consecutive season, a previously unthinkable scenario given the Queensland side were fourth on the ladder as recently as Round 19.

A dreadful run of one win in six fixtures to round out the season cost the Broncos dearly, with Kevin Walters’ side shipping an alarming 113 points in consecutive home games against the Melbourne Storm and the Parramatta Eels.

Walters was seen on TV giving his players an almighty spray, but reports emerged that his troops were left upset from what the Broncos coach had to say.

However, Alexander had some choice words for whoever leaked the information regarding the reactions of a select number of players.

“It’s not good enough to be complaining about the coach spraying the players,” Alexander said on Fox League.

“There is no way that should have been made public. If you’re a player at that club and you’re leaking that sort of information, your club is going nowhere. Absolutely nowhere.

“Did they get ahead of themselves after their win over the Eels? They must have.”

Alexander also had a pointed message for the Broncos brass as it deals with the fallout from a season that fizzled out in alarming fashion.

“The stories that have leaked out of Brisbane over the last couple of weeks, it’s not a club on the up, it isn’t,” Alexander said.

“If the players are complaining because they were disappointed in the spray that Kevvie gave them after they were smashed and gave up 19 tries in those two games, you’ve got to get rid of some personnel.

“That doesn’t leave the dressing room. If a coach sprays a team, they obviously deserved it. They deserved it.”
