Canberra star Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad has opened up on his decision to return to the Warriors in an emotional interview with Fox League’s Jake Duke.
While Nicoll-Klokstad, 27, has loved his time in Canberra, the influence of family and friends back in New Zealand lead him to making the decision to go home.
With his children living with their mother in New Zealand, Nicoll-Klokstad revealed it was a sad moment with his eldest son that made him realise that he needed to be closer to his family and friends.

“It’s been a journey, it hasn’t been an easy one,” Nicoll-Klokstad said.
“I love being a dad, being a dad is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.
“It’s so rewarding and fulfilling.
“I went back for Christmas and my oldest boy said to me ‘daddy I didn’t know when I was going to see you again’.
“That just cut me up pretty bad, for my boy who just turned five to sort of say that sort of stuff wasn’t nice, but I was glad he was expressing how he felt about it too.

“I could see that my boys were hurting so as much as I didn’t want to leave the Raiders, the Warriors gave me an opportunity to continue my dream as becoming an NRL player and gave me the opportunity to be more of a dad again.”
An Auckland native, the New Zealand international begun his NRL career with the Warriors in 2017.
Since then he’s had a taste of the NRL Grand Final with the Raiders in 2019, however he revealed he wants to be a part of the first Warriors side that brings the Provan-Summons Trophy across the Tasman.

“It’s very exciting, they’ve got new players coming in as well and I’m just looking forward to doing something special there,” Nicoll-Klokstad added.
“When I first started playing there that was something I really wanted to be apart of was, you know they haven’t won a competition there.
“We just about won a competition here, but to be apart of the first ever premiership winning team, that’s the goal.
“I’m driven to help make that happen and I know a lot of the boys are too.”
