Rabbitohs superstar Cameron Murray suffered a worrying concussion blow in the opening minutes of their grudge match against the Roosters on Friday night.
Murray’s head struck the hip of Sydney’s Kevin Naiqama’s as he attempted to make a tackle. Murray looked dazed and tumbled to the turf as he struggled to regain his feet. He subsequently failed a HIA after being sent immediately from the pitch.
“That looked one of the more severe knocks,” Fox League commentator Dan Ginnane said.
“What a blow this is for South Sydney right now,” Mick Ennis said. “Their most important player, Cameron Murray. Their ball player, their lock, their inspirational captain… this will be a huge blow for Souths.”
Murray previously suffered head knock in the State of Origin decider.

But the Roosters copped a big blow of their own in the first half when enforcer Jared Waerea-Hargreaves disappeared down the tunnel with a hamstring concern. Matt Russell on sideline duties for Fox League reported the Roosters claimed it was “only a tight hamstring.”
“That’s a big blow, that’s a big concern,” Dan Ginnane said in commentary. “That usually is at least a one-week injury.”

On Thursday night, Storm backrower Kenny Bromwich failed a HIA after a strong tackle from Eels playmaker Mitch Moses.
Bromwich’s head came down hard on the ground as the 33-year-old lost the ball in the 50th minute.
“Bromwich is not well and struggling to get up,” Fox League’s Cooper Cronk said.
“This is a tough sport folks, doesn’t matter who hits who… there are some big shots in our game,” Andrew Voss said.
Bromwich will now need to pass the NRL’s concussion protocols to line-up in Craig Bellamy’s side for the first week of finals.
