BRISBANE PICKS UP EX-STORM HOOKER

The Broncos have reportedly signed ex-Storm hooker Tyson Smoothy who has just been named in the Queensland Cup team of the year.

Smoothy made his NRL debut in the opening round of the 2021 season when Harry Grant and Brandon Smith were unavailable.

The 23-year-old played four NRL games last year but didn’t get a run in 2022 but was once being listed among the Storm’s reserves.

But the Sunshine Coast Falcons product has reportedly signed a contract at Red Hill to play under Kevin Walters.

Smoothy will compete for the No. 9 jersey with Billy Walters, Cory Paix, Tyson Smoothy and Blake Mozer.

“There is a bit of Harry Grant in him,” Falcons chairman Ashley Robinson told The Courier Mail.

“He’s got some footy in him and a good footy brain. He also has a kicking game and I think he will blossom if he gets a run at the Broncos.”

TIGERS’ DREAM RECRUITMENT COUP AS MUNSTER CALL LOOMS

The Tigers are holding out hope they can lure both Cameron Munster and Mitchell Moses to the club in a dream recruitment double play.

The Daily Telegraph’s Brent Read revealed on Triple M, the Tigers are still holding out hope of landing both players as their dream halves pairing.

“Some club would pay $1.1 million for Moses and the Tigers want him back,” Read said on Triple M.

“Cameron Munster is very close to making a decision on whether he stays in Melbourne or not.

“He met with manager Braith Anasta on Friday. They played golf and had lunch and they were going to make a decision at that point about whether he took the Melbourne extension or not.

“The Tigers’ dream scenario if they can’t keep Luke Brooks is Munster and Moses.

“Their dream is both and they have made contact with both.”

However, former Tigers skipper Aaron Woods believes Moses may be more inclined to join the Tigers if best mate Luke Brooks is still on the books.

“Would you think Moses would want to go back there more if Brooks was there?” Woods said.

“They are still best mates and close as.”

LANE DEAL SET TO INFLUENCE STAR HALF

Shaun Lane’s reported $2 million extension is set to have a positive impact on the Eels’ bid to re-sign Dylan Brown long-term.

Brent Read reported on Triple M that Brown’s partnership with Lane on the left edge is set to work in the Eels’ favour in their bid to lock up Brown’s services.

“The interesting sideline to Lane’s deal is Dylan Brown, who plays alongside him at Parramatta,” Read said on Triple M.

“He is off-contract at the end of next year and free to negotiate with rivals on November 1.

“I spoke to Dylan Brown about his future. He is a very laid back guy. He said, it doesn’t worry me footy will be there one way or the other, Parramatta is not going anywhere.

“But I said, Shaun Lane re-signing given you play alongside him at club level will that convince you to try and stay.

“He said, yeah no doubt it will because you want to be surrounded by good players. I have a good chemistry with him. You want the club to keep winning and with Shaun Lane here it will help us keep winning.

“That is promising signs for Parramatta because they have a really difficult period coming up where they have to re-sign Will Penisini, Mitchell Moses, Waqa Blake and Brown.

“Nathan Brown I suspect will be gone.

“They will try and get those guys done before November 1 if they can. If they can’t a guy like Moses his price is going up and up.

“Cleary is on $1.3 million, so Moses is worth a $1 million minimum I would think.”
